You may also contact the church office via email or call to make arrangements for envelopes to be left in the blue bin outside the church by the lower doors for pickup any day Monday through Wednesday after 10:00 a.m. Please take family and friend's envelopes along if possible. Thank you for the new addition to the choir room! Thanks to the many individual donations, fund raising events, and memorials, we were able to acquire a new piano. The instrument is a 2016 Essex upright which was designed by Steinway and manufactured abroad. The slightly used piano was acquired from John Ziener & Sons, Allentown and comes with a three year warranty on action and keys. You’re welcome to visit the choir room and see this wonderful addition.

“SOCKTOBER” ~ From October 1 through October 31, 2021, we will be collecting NEW socks of all sizes, colors, patterns, and varieties. "Johnnie" will be collecting the socks in the narthex. These socks will be donated to those in need.

Rita Frey (New Jerusalem member) called the Cantelmi-Long Funeral Home to find out if they are doing the Stockings for Soldiers program this Christmas season. They are not participating this year, but gave Rita the name of another local company who is doing it. The Unangst Tree Farm in Bath is doing it as part of their Pumpkin Season Business http://www.unangst-treefarm.com/stockings-for-soldiers. Rita was forwarded this link to get more information on how they are handling things. The response to this drive was very enthusiastic from our congregation in the past. Here are the options for donating:

  • If anyone is interested in this, the deadline is very tight already. Rita would be willing to take any donations directly to the Unangst Farm by 10/31/21. Her email address is rita.frey@rcn.com. The link provides a list of desired items or to provide money for postage to mail the items.   • Donations can be dropped off anytime at Unangst Tree Farms (Unangst Tree Farms, 7317 Bethlehem-Bath Pike, Bath, PA 18014) during their regular Pumpkin Season Business Hours (Monday-Friday 12P-5P and Sat/Sun 10 A-6 P). Unangst Tree Farms thanks you in advance for participating in their efforts to brighten a soldier's life while being away from family and loved ones during the Christmas Season! Donations MUST be at the farm by October 31st at 5 PM at the latest.

IT'S BACK!

BINGO will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.




 


CANDY DONATIONS are needed for Sunday, October 24th's SV Halloween Parade at 2:00 p.m. If you are willing and able, please drop off a bag or two of candy (individually wrapped) for the parade at the Hellertown Post Office at

660 Delaware Ave in Hellertown and spread the word. It would be greatly appreciated by all.

New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church Sunday School News


Sunday School will resume weekly classes beginning Sunday, October 10, 2021 and classes will meet from 8:45–9:30 a.m.


Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to participate. Interested families are asked to complete a registration form for each child. (Forms are also available in the Narthex.) Teachers and helpers are needed as well. Please let Marianne Zellner know if you are willing to help (beachbummez@ptd.net or

610-216-1016).


A children’s choir will also be offered from 9:30–9:50 a.m. following Sunday School for any children interested. The kids will learn songs to share during worship periodically throughout the year and for fun and may even prepare a Christmas program if there is interest.



Children will need to be picked up from Sunday School promptly at 9:30 a.m. unless participating in the Children’s Choir. In that case, parents should be ready to take charge of their children by 9:50 a.m. in preparation for worship.

postpone this summer’s 2021 ELCA Youth Gathering to 2022

due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is Mutual Ministry at New Jerusalem? Did you know that there is a Mutual Ministry Committee here at New Jerusalem?


Mutual Ministry is loosely defined as the interaction between the pastor, professional staff, Church Council, and the congregation to foster communication and support between these three groups. Typical tasks of the Mutual Ministry Committee include providing a listening ear to each group and a means to interact in a confidential way to resolve issues that may arise between, and within, each group. The committee also assists Church Council in conducting an annual performance review of the Church’s professional staff, as well as providing input into creating and revising employee job descriptions.

Currently, this committee is comprised of three members (Tina Miller, Tina Young, and Tim Fulmer) who are appointed to serve a three-year term as approved by the Pastor and Church Council President. The committee is currently seeking additional members, so any interested members of the congregation are invited to contact Pastor Lisa; Church Council President, Marianne Zellner; or any current Mutual Ministry Committee member for more information.

Any member of the congregation that desires to seek assistance from the Mutual Ministry Committee may do so by contacting a member of the committee to arrange a meeting with the committee to discuss issues dealing with interactions with pastor/professional staff, Church Council, and/or other members of the congregation. All contact with the Mutual Ministry Committee is kept confidential between the parties involved in the issue; and the hopeful outcome of this process is to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of all parties.

Our Music Director, Edward L. Walakovits, is a skilled Organist and Choir Director with more than 30 years of experience. He is experienced in playing the pipe organ and piano. Ed has a working knowledge of liturgy and choral styles. He is an effective leader with an eye for developing and motivating choir members. Ed graduated from Moravian College with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance with a minor in Music.

Pop-Up Choir ~ Once or twice a month, the choir invites members and guests to join them to sing the Anthem and praises to our God! The response has been very positive and uplifting for all!

The Worship and Music Committee is always looking for any and all volunteers who are interested in special singing, either solo or with others and/or playing an instrument for additional special music to enhance our worship service and should be coordinated with Ed Walakovits–Music Director.

 

Calling all volunteers … we are in great need of volunteers (ushers, greeters, lectors, and general helpers) for our

10:00 a.m. indoor worship services. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the Narthex area for those who would like to serve. Thank you!
