What a long, tiring winter season we’ve had on many fronts. Punxsutawney Phil weighed in on his decision that the cold and wintry weather would continue for a seemingly endless “six more weeks” and he was right … food and gas prices have risen so high that it makes us be more judicious with our shopping and traveling choices … the war in Ukraine has become front page news and the images of displaced and injured people and animals are heartbreaking … not to mention, the Lenten season itself is a more somber time of personal reflection. But then, I notice promises of hope all around me. As I visited someone yesterday, there were clusters of miniature daffodils popping out their colorful heads from her flowerbeds. Oh, how I love spring flowers! Frigid temperatures have given way to warmer weather and longer hours of sunlight to enjoy our days. I shift my thinking from higher store prices to the clear fact that my family and I certainly have more than enough food to eat and clothes to wear as well as the freedom and opportunity to go to places that we choose. And at the Prayer Vigil that was recently held in Hellertown on behalf of the people of Ukraine, I saw for myself the power of people coming together in prayer and song, working in big and small ways to bring comfort to unknown folks thousands of miles away. The greatest promise of hope, however, is that of Easter. While the season of Lent focusses on stories of personal temptation, of sacrifice, and on being prodigal and squandering opportunities to be responsible and caring, Easter in all of its glory, brings us full circle to redemption, forgiveness, and restoration. We travel through the challenges and darkness of our own Good Fridays to the joy and brilliance of resurrection and relationship with our Savior and that is certainly something to celebrate!
May God’s peace bring you hope.

Some committees have combined forces. They are: Finance and Endowment Committee becoming "Finance/Endowment" and Congregational Care and Outreach (CCO) and Fellowship becoming "Church Community Life (CCL)".
As always, congregation members are invited to attend Church Council meetings as spectators. Our meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
If you have a question or concern that you want addressed at a council meeting, please notify me by Sunday of that week or place it in the question box located in the Narthex. Of course, you can always share your thoughts and concerns with any current council member and ask them for help as well. You have to find a way to respect these new boundaries related to coronavirus,
but still live the version of life you're used to. That's what life is, regardless of circumstances. If I could offer advice to any person today, it would be
to stick by your faith. Know that your God is with you and will
take care of you all the way through. We will get through this.
Council Question Box
What is Mutual Ministry at New Jerusalem? Did you know that there is a Mutual Ministry Committee here at New Jerusalem?
Mutual Ministry is loosely defined as the interaction between the pastor, professional staff, Church Council, and the congregation to foster communication and support between these three groups. Typical tasks of the Mutual Ministry Committee include providing a listening ear to each group and a means to interact in a confidential way to resolve issues that may arise between, and within, each group. The committee also assists Church Council in conducting an annual performance review of the Church’s professional staff, as well as providing input into creating and revising employee job descriptions.
Currently, this committee is comprised of three members (Tina Miller, Tina Young, and Tim Fulmer) who are appointed to serve a three-year term as approved by the Pastor and Church Council President. The committee is currently seeking additional members, so any interested members of the congregation are invited to contact Pastor Lisa; Church Council President, Marianne Zellner; or any current Mutual Ministry Committee member for more information.
Any member of the congregation that desires to seek assistance from the Mutual Ministry Committee may do so by contacting a member of the committee to arrange a meeting with the committee to discuss issues dealing with interactions with pastor/professional staff, Church Council, and/or other members of the congregation. All contact with the Mutual Ministry Committee is kept confidential between the parties involved in the issue; and the hopeful outcome of this process is to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of all parties.
