2019 Altar Flower Sign-up Sheet is located in the Narthex. 

 

Altar flowers are a great way to honor or remember someone dear. 
The cost is $35.00 or 2 people/families may share a week for $17.50/each.

 

The Altar Guild is in need of 46 oz. cans to put the Sunday flowers in to take them to our shut-ins.

What is Mutual Ministry at New Jerusalem?  Did you know that there is a Mutual Ministry Committee here at New Jerusalem?

 

Mutual Ministry is loosely defined as the interaction between the pastor, professional staff, Church Council, and the congregation to foster communication and support between these three groups.  Typical tasks of the Mutual Ministry Committee include providing a listening ear to each group and a means to interact in a confidential way to resolve issues that may arise between, and within, each group.  The committee also assists Church Council in conducting an annual performance review of the Church’s professional staff, as well as providing input into creating and revising employee job descriptions. 

 

Currently, this committee is comprised of three members (Tina Miller, Tina Young, and Tim Fulmer) who are appointed to serve a three-year term as approved by the Pastor and Church Council President.  The committee is currently seeking additional members, so any interested members of the congregation are invited to contact Pastor Lauren; Church Council President, Marianne Zellner; or any current Mutual Ministry Committee member for more information. 

 

Any member of the congregation that desires to seek assistance from the Mutual Ministry Committee may do so by contacting a member of the committee to arrange a meeting with the committee to discuss issues dealing with interactions with pastor/professional staff, Church Council, and/or other members of the congregation.  All contact with the Mutual Ministry Committee is kept confidential between the parties involved in the issue; and the hopeful outcome of this process is to resolve the issue to the satisfaction of all parties.

Mr. Phil Diaz’ Music Corner

 

Music has always played a pivotal role in Phil's life.  Success at the PMEA District, Region and State Chorus festivals motivated Phil to pursue vocal studies at the collegiate level.  Studies at The University of The Arts, The Boston Conservatory, and East Stroudsburg University have only strengthened his musical foundation.  He has performed with the Pennsylvania Lyric Opera, Amici Opera, Boston Conservatory Opera Studio, Philly Pops, and at Northampton Community College.  Phil has extensive conducting and music directing experience having directed ensembles at The University of the Arts, Northampton Community College, Pennsylvania Youth Theatre, and Northampton Area High School.  Many of his vocal students have successfully auditioned into music programs at DeSales, Muhlenberg, Ithaca, Northwestern, The New England Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music.  Phil is a proud member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing, Lehigh Valley Arts Council, and The Nazareth Bath Regional Chamber of Commerce.  In his spare time, Phil enjoys reading, working out, and traveling.  Phil is very excited to be a part of New Jerusalem community and looks forward to a great year.

Volunteers Needed for the Fellowship Committee ~ The Fellowship Committee provides tasty treats for your enjoyment after worship every Sunday and is in need of additional volunteers to provide items.  Currently the number of congregational members is at a minimum and could use some help.  If you have any interest in providing an occasional snack for coffee hour, please see or get in touch with LeeAnn Malesky.  If you would like to team up with another family or a couple of people, we can work with you on doing that.  If you would like to offer your assistance on setup and or clean up, that is welcome also.  We thank all of those that have provided for us in any way with this ministry.

New Endeavor ~ New Jerusalem will be expanding our efforts to support Veterans.  We reached out to the Hellertown American Legion, Battle Borne, and Valor Clinic Foundation.  These organizations help our local veterans in various ways. 

 

We will hold periodic fundraising events and create an account so when one of these organizations has a veteran in need (home project, necessities, or monetary), we can offer support.  The congregation will be kept informed of the veterans we are helping.  Any questions, contact Cindy Hart.

New Jerusalem Community Food Bank

 

Current Needs:  Snack food (chips, cookies, pretzels)

Food Bank Delivery:  Friday, September 13, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

Distribution Days:  Saturday, September 21 and 28, 2019 at 8:45–10:45 a.m.

 

During the month of August, 60 families were served at New Jerusalem Food Bank.  Income was $1000, expenses were $400.  There is a grant from Second Harvest that is used for food.

 

Donations from local area churches, organizations, and families for August were:  Christ Lutheran Church-Hellertown, St. Luke’s Old Williams Lutheran Church, Saucon Valley Lion's Club, and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Apple's Preschool News

 

 

Welcome to Apple's Preschool at New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church! 

 

Our program consists of four classes designed to fit the needs of every student and their family.  Through many learning activities, crafts, songs, books, and much more, children are engaged to learn their letters, numbers, colors, shapes, patterns, opposites, rhyming, sequencing, size, etc., along with writing skills. With a soft Christian environment children are guided through their days to share and care, while using their imaginations and energy to fill our spacious classroom with joy.

 

Apple’s Preschool is collecting CAPS. . .plastic caps from water and juice bottles, laundry soap, etc. They will be given to the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Easton. The goal is to use this plastic waste and turn it into usable furniture.

 Once again, for the 18th year, COB is fundraising to help our neighbors in need in the Southern Lehigh and surrounding communities. 

 

Please go to www.cobcares.org for information on our recipients this year:  Pam Wallace of Coopersburg, Stacie Herceg of Center Valley, Dana and Maddy Kershner, Jim Hardy and David Tankelewicz of Quakertown.  David is a US Marine Veteran.

 

To date, COB has helped neighbors needing financial support due to serious medical issues.  We have been blessed to help 56 individuals/families by raising over $892,000. 

 

Though we no longer have our beloved block party, we still fundraiser by solicitations, raffle, restaurant fundraisers, our COBCares Golf Invitational on July 24, 2019 at Wedgewood ($4,000 was raised to help our recipients), and our COBScares 5K, 2.5 walk and Kids Fun Run at DeSales on October 19, 2019.  Registrations and more info on these events is available through our website. 

 

JULY COB RESTAURANT FUNDRAISERS!  Enjoy some wonderful lunch or dinner and yummy treats and help your neighbors in need via the Community Outreach Benefit/COBCares!  Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 6:00–10:00 p.m. at the Inside Scoop for some yummy treats!  Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from  11:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. at Ecco Domani for a delicious lunch or dinner!  September 10-11, 2019 from 4:00–9:00 p.m. ~ Come on out to Alcamo, 546 Richlandtown Pike, Richlandtown, PA to have some of Vinnie’s yummy Italian dishes and pizza and support the Community Outreach Benefit too!  Thank you to these fine eateries for their support of COB!

Movie Night ~ The New Jerusalem youth has invited everyone to join them on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre located at 4540 Shankweiler Road, Orefield, PA 18069 for a movie night.

The Synod (End of) Summer Ice Cream Tour!  We are the church TOGETHER, and in such an important year as this, with Bishop election in June 2020, we must start conversations early to allow time for participation and meaningful, personal discussion and feedback around who we are and where we are headed.  The MISSION involves everyone, and I am on a quest to engage as many as possible, says Synod VP Kristen Edelman-Weiner.

Lay Eucharistic Visitor Training ~ Training will be held on

Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at

Christ Lutheran Church-Hellertown, 69 Main Street, Hellertown, PA.

 

Eucharistic Visitors are members of the congregation who under the supervision of their pastor, are trained to bring the communion meal from worship to ill and homebound members of their congregation who are unable to attend service.  

 

LCSs training ministry engages learners in the Biblical and theological background of the Sacrament of Holy Communion and teaches potential Eucharistic Visitors about visitation and administration of the sacrament.  The cost is $25.00 per person and registration is required.

Youth Fest 2019 "Not Ashamed:  Living Out and Standing Up for the Gospel of Faith!" ~ Come join us on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Union Lutheran Church in Schnecksville, PA from at 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. for a day of faith, food, and fun.

  • Bring along your favorite PA German dish to share in our Potluck Supper, an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share.

  • Hear guest speakers share stories in the dialect and learn about the culture which many of us are part of.
