Pastor Lauren's October 2018 Inspiration, the Church Council Connection, and Music Director Search Has Concluded

October 1, 2018

Siblings in Christ,

Good news!  We received word from the lawyers that our merge has one last step until it is complete!  Thanks be to God!  This process has been a long one, but we are living into the beauty of our communities coming together as one congregation. As you may have seen, we have found a new home for so many of the beautiful pieces of furniture and items that will continue to help tell the story of our communities’ history as we move forward together.

One of the items that we are blessed to have is the beautifully carved baptismal font from Christ Lutheran!  We have found a place for it that will allow us to see it and remember God’s love and grace on a regular basis.  It is there, in the hallway by the entrance to the lower level of the church building; the entrance nearest to the Church Office, the Preschool, the Choir room, the Classrooms, and the Conference Room.

You may be wondering, “why there?”  That's a wonderful question.  I am so glad you asked!  Every day there is work being done within the rooms of this lower part of our building that is precious and holy work.  We have the teachers, helpers, students, and families who are associated with Apples Preschool who gather here in a community of exploration and learning.  We have the quilters who gather on a weekly basis with a shared passion for creating in a caring community.  We have a 12 step group that meets twice a week in this lower section of our building, providing a space of refuge and healing for those who suffer from addiction.  We have our Office Administrator, Jeannette, and the countless volunteers who aid in keeping the “behind the scenes” work up to date.  We have the choir meeting in the choir room, preparing to make beautiful music to aid in our worship and to bring glory to God.  Each of these individuals, and so many others doing good and holy work, have to walk past this beautiful font in order to complete their tasks.  It is our hope that as they pass the font, they will be reminded that the work they are doing in the Church Office, in the Preschool, in the Choir room, in the Classrooms, and in the Conference Room, is powered and led by the same Spirit that we have each received in Baptism.  May this reminder help us more tightly cling to God’s goodness as we continue moving forward in faith, together.

Peace in Christ Jesus,

Pastor Lauren Applegate

September 2018 Summary

Council had a lighter agenda this month. We were able to spend a little more time with the committee reports.  We also found out that Valley Business Systems wanted to gift us with a copier.  More research has been done and it seems like this will save us some money in the long run.  Other topics covered included merger updates, progress on our confirmation program, piano tuning and building requests for the Christ, Lower Saucon property.  The next round of Endowment grants is coming with a deadline of October 7 for submission.  Next month the finance committee will present the proposed budget for discussion.

I ask for your continued prayers for all the council members and all those in leadership positions for this congregation.

Peace be with you,

Marianne Zellner, Council President

Music Director Search Has Concluded ~ Sing praises! The awaited day is coming with our New Music Director!

The task force that was charged with finding, interviewing, and recommending their selection for our new Music Director to the Council has prayerfully and faithfully completed its task!  With Council’s approval, we have offered the position of Music Director of New Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church to Phil Diaz!

Phil has many musical gifts, including the ability to lead others in song in a fun and relatable way.  We feel that he will be able to help us use our gifts so that we may praise God together.  Mr. Diaz will start with us on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Both he and we are looking forward to the adventures that await us all!  Be sure to join us on September 30 for worship to welcome him to our community!  We are thankful to all who took the time to be part of this process, from the task force members to the applicants, and hope that God continues to see us through the remainder of this transition.  Check back next month for a bit more about Phil.
