Pastor Lauren's March 2018 Inspiration, the Church Council Connection, and Endowment Committee Information

March 23, 2018

Siblings in Christ,

I love to tell the story, it did so much for me,

And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee.

I love to tell the story,

’Twill be my theme in glory,

To tell the old, old story
Of Jesus and his love.

It has been a great honor to gather with you for the Midweek Lenten Soup Suppers so far this year.  Our theme, as you may be able to guess from the lyrics above, is the sharing of stories.  During our time together, we give thanks to God for the stories we read and experience in scripture, as well as in our lived experiences of the Holy.  So far, we have spent time reflecting on God as the Co-Author of our life stories, focusing on how we understand and see God.  We have thought about the Character Development we have gone through, and how we have been SHAPEd by God through our Spiritual gifts, our Hearts’ passions, our Abilities, our Personalities, and our Experiences.  Still to come are reflections on the settings of our life stories, and the stories yet to be written. I trust that the Spirit will continue to move among us and gift us with her presence through the remaining weeks.  If you have yet to join us, it’s never too late to do so.

This theme of stories during Lent is also getting us ready to partake in a new worship experience for this Holy Week at New Jerusalem.  We will be having an Easter Vigil Service on Saturday evening this year instead of our Sunrise Service on Easter morning.  The premise of the traditional Easter Vigil is to gather together, to hear and share the stories of the Hebrew Scriptures, that share in the ways that God acted through the stories of the generations before Christ’s time on earth.  Then, mid worship, the scene changes, and we find that Jesus is risen, and no longer dead in the tomb!  This service is one that presents the opportunity to bring great joy (and even humor!) to our Easter celebrations, and it is my hope that you will join in on the fun.  If you are interested in helping to make this service happen, there are tasks of all levels of involvement available, please let me know.

Peace in Christ Jesus,

Pastor Lauren Applegate

February 2018 Summary

February was a busy month for many of the church leaders.  The Music Director Search Committee has begun its work and has secured coverage through Easter.  The church’s annual audit was completed and the Finance Committee came with a few proposals to better secure church finances and processes.  As you may have already heard, we made a tough decision to terminate the church secretary.  Fortunately, we have already hired Jeanette Peterson, who worked previously for Christ-Lower Saucon.  She will be anxious to get to know all of you.

Please be aware that we have terminated phone and internet services in the office at Christ-Lower Saucon as well as the PO Box.  All office work will now be conducted in the New Jerusalem office and Tina’s home.

I have learned a lot in one month.  If I have not yet met you, please make a point to introduce yourself.  It may take me time to remember names, but I want to get to know you.  I ask for your continued prayers for all the council members and all those in leadership positions for this congregation.

Peace be with you,

Marianne Zellner, Council President
